Pelaires
The Pelaires tower that gives the area its name, along with the signal tower or Portopí tower, is a unique example of Mallorcan coastal signaling and defense towers. Placed at the mouth of the port of Portopí, one of the ports of Palma, they rise on Roman foundations (protected as a national monument in 1876) whose construction - like its twin in Portopí - is estimated shortly after the conquest; in 1475 it was enabled to air goods and people suspected of illness, incorporating it into public health services and at the same time giving it its current name of "Torre de Peraires". On the other side of the promenade is the famous Club de Mar, one of the most established nautical-sports facilities in Mallorca and a nautical and social reference in the Mediterranean, in direct competition with the French Riviera.
