Albalat dels Sorrells
Albalat dels Sorells is a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain. It belongs to the province of Valencia, in the region of Huerta Norte.
The dating of the early times of the municipality goes back to the time of Arab domination. At that time the term was divided into a farmhouse with two parts: Albalat Fauquia (or above) and Albalat Acifilia (or below): the first ended up constituting the municipality. It was conquered after the famous Battle of Carraixet and the conquest of the city of Valencia in 1238, together with the entire Huerta Norte.
The term is located in the plain of the left bank of the river Turia,5 and crossed from south to north by the Real de Moncada ditch. It has a very elongated shape in an EW direction, almost divided in two by Mahuella and Tauladella, headings belonging to Valencia.
The urban center of Albalat is crossed from north to south by the old road from Valencia to Barcelona (N-340). It is also crossed by the CV-300 to the east of the town center and by the V-21 motorway on the coast. 10 It also has a stop on Metrovalencia Line 3, called Albalat dels Sorells.
The county castle of Albalat dels Sorells is 22 meters wide by 13 meters high with 18 meter towers. The ground plan is square with walls of mixed or Valencian rammed earth that leave a central patio and the bands of a single bay around it. The county castle of Albalat dels Sorells is currently the product of a long evolution that began with the March family in the 15th century and continues until today. The fortress aspect that it presents today is due to the intervention of the 19th century, during which three towers were added. One of the most intense and extensive interventions that have been carried out was the one carried out by the Diputación de Valencia in the 1970s, a work that leaves the most visible mark today and with intervention criteria that differ quite a bit. of the concepts that currently direct, in a general way, the restoration works. Currently, and for years it has been the seat of the City Council.
