Algemesí
Algemesí is a municipality in the Valencian Community (Spain), located in the Ribera Alta region, province of Valencia. It is located to the east of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Valencian coastal plain, next to the mouth of the Magro in the Júcar, and with part of its municipal area in the Albufera Natural Park. Its urban area is 5 km from the regional capital (Alcira), 30 km from the provincial capital (Valencia), 378 km from the national capital (Madrid) and 1,723 km from the European capital (Brussels).
Due to the demographic and urban development of the last century, the urban centers of Algemesí, Alcira and Carcagente are practically united, in fact forming a conurbation with nearly 95,000 inhabitants, being the second largest population center in the province of Valencia, after the capital and its metropolitan area. On an economic level, the use of the waters of the Acequia Real del Júcar introduced the municipality to irrigation with crops such as mulberry and rice, which encouraged the growth of the town, although, over the years, cultivation citrus gained ground to rice, being the main source of income for the municipality for more than a century (19th and 20th centuries).
