Baix Segura
La Vega Baja del Segura is a region of the Valencian Community, Spain. It is located in the extreme south of the province of Alicante, on the border with the Region of Murcia.
Its capital and historically most important city is Orihuel; city located on the plain within the largest municipality in the region and second in population. The city of Torrevieja, located on the coast, is the first in population with 83,337 inhabitants. The region is made up of 27 municipalities divided into two judicial districts: Orihuela and Torrevieja.
The relief of the region is flat in the plain of the lower course of the Segura river, whose use is agricultural in irrigated land, mainly orchards, which contrasts with the aridity of the mountainous area where rainfed crops predominate. On both sides of its mouth, the region opens up to the sea, to the coastline of the Costa Blanca.
