Begur
Situated in the heart of l'Empordà, the town of Begur and its beaches make up one of the most wonderful places on the Costa Brava.
Both the old town of Begur, formed by multiple monuments that have remained as a legacy of the most significant moments in its history, and the small Romanesque nucleus of Esclanyà, or the eight coves and small beaches that belong to Begur, form an unmatched set and landscape environment.
The most well-known image of Begur is undoubtedly the medieval castle that presides over the town, but there are also other interesting places to visit, such as the numerous Indianas houses (colonial-style buildings built by begurencs who in the 19th century emigrated to "the Americas" fleeing the economic crisis of the time, and who later returned with a significant fortune), the 16th-century defense towers (legacy of the time when pirates sailed the Mediterranean and built by the begurencs as a means of refuge against their assaults), the church (a Gothic-style building dedicated to Saint Peter) or other historic buildings such as the Cultural Casino or the Old Schools.
The coast of Begur also offers a coastline of incomparable beauty, where the cliffs, pines, hidden coves with crystal clear waters, and the rugged coast make this area the most beautiful of the Costa Brava. Begur has eight coves and beaches, located at the foot of the town, with varied characteristics and unique beauty. (Aiguablava, Fornells, Platja Fonda, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Sa Riera, Illa Roja, and Platja del Racó).
