Cocentaina
Cocentaina is a town and municipality in the north of the Alicante province of the Valencian Community in Spain. Capital of the Cocentaina County region. Integrated in the region of Condado de Cocentaina, of which it acts as capital, it is located 59 kilometers from the provincial capital. The municipality is crossed by the Autovía del Mediterráneo (A-7) and by the national road N-340 between pK 798 and 804, in addition to local roads that allow communication with Alquería de Aznar, Muro de Alcoy, Millena and Benilloba.
The relief of the municipality is very irregular, with numerous ravines on the eastern slope of the Sierra de Mariola that drain into the Serpis River, which runs from south to north. Much of the territory is integrated into the natural park of Sierra Mariola
Cocentaina was already an important and strategic location in the Paleolithic, Neolithic and pre-Roman times. In Cocentaina there are three shelters with cave paintings of schematic art: the Alberri shelter, the Paella shelter and the Penya Banyà shelter. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1998
Currently Cocentaina is a city of services with its shopping centers. In addition, Cocentaina is an important industrial city, focused on the textile industry in all its fields, from spinning to the export of finished materials. Cocentaina and its surroundings form one of the most important textile centers in Spain.
