Deià - Bunyola
The municipality and town of Deià, in the “Serra de Tramontana”, are among the most admired for their picturesqueness in all of Mallorca. World famous for having been the residence of artists, bohemians and personalities such as the Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria, Manuel de Falla, the painter Santiago Rusiñol, the writer and poet Robert Graves and the poet Laura Riding, they owe their name to the Muslim era: « ad daia" means "place." Its peculiar steep topography led to the creation of terraces delimited by "marges", as the dry stone walls carved by hand are called locally, as well as an irrigation system to maintain small arable plots, achieving a prosperous horticulture thanks to these peculiar constructions.
