Vall d’Uixó
Vall d’Uixó is a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain, located in the southeast of the province of Castellón, in the Plana Baja region. The municipality is located next to the Mediterranean coast, which makes it enjoy climatic conditions typical of this area, with mild winters and hot summers. Its historical maximum temperature exceeds 40 °C, while the minimum is around -5 °C with occasional frosts. It is an inland city located between a valley and a few kilometers away, just eight, from the beaches of the Costa del Azahar.
The municipal district of Vall d’Uixó limits to the north with the municipalities of Artana and Nules; to the east with La Llosa, Moncófar and Chilches; to the west with Alfondeguilla and to the south with the municipalities of Almenara and Sagunto, the latter in the province of Valencia.
The economic and industrial activity in the town has always been focused on agricultural activity, with two important crafts: espadrille and pottery.
Gradually, the artisanal production of espadrilles acquired industrial characteristics, until in the first half of the 20th century, especially with the creation of the Segarra family business and its work for the army, the footwear industry became the leading sector of the economic development of the population.
This industrialization process, fundamentally based on the Segarra company, was accompanied by the creation of numerous footwear companies around it. At no time did this fact mean the loss of the agricultural character of the city. It can be said that the main activities in recent times have been the footwear industry and agricultural production, especially citrus fruits, favored by the local climate.
