Canals
Canals is a municipality in the Valencian Community, in Spain. Located in the south of the province of Valencia, in the region of La Costera. The main crops are: potatoes, peanuts, onions, melons and strawberries. The most widespread crop is the orange in different varieties. There are carob and almond trees in the dry land.
The main economic activity was industry. There were 16 knitwear factories, 6 clothing factories and 2 spinning factories. Leather tanning is a traditional activity; there are three oil factories, another for flour, furniture, cardboard boxes, plaster, construction material, etc.
Currently, only one leather tanning company remains. Well-known dishes are baked rice, or the pasta that is distributed on Saint Anthony's day. Broad beans with peppermint, a typical dish served by the festeros to visitors at the La Torre May festivities.
